LTC Arcade G. Boivin, II, USA (Ret.), age 79, of Concord, MA, died Sunday, September 13th at his Concord home in the company of his loving family. He was the beloved husband for 58 years of Jane (Buckley) Boivin.
Born in Cohoes, New York on November 26, 1935 he was the son of the late Lionel J. and Alma (Delisle) Boivin.
LTC Boivin grew up in Cohoes where he studied at St. Marie's Elementary School and graduated in 1953 from La Salle Institute in Troy, New York. He attended the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York and graduated with the class of 1957. Later, he also earned a Master's Degree in Engineering from Purdue University.
Serving honorably in the United States Army for twenty-two years, LTC Boivin completed two tours of duty in the Vietnam War where he received many awards and decorations including the Legion of Merit, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm.
For several years, prior to his retirement, he was a Civil Engineer for Charles T. Main, Inc., Raytheon, and Stone & Webster.
A Concord resident since 1973, he was an active parishioner at Holy Family Parish and the former Our Lady Help of Christians Church in Concord where he served as an usher, lector, and Eucharistic Minister.
A master woodworker, he enjoyed crafting hand made wooden toys for his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Jane, survivors include his children, Ellen Garthoff of Concord, MA, Michael Boivin and his wife Ingrid of Munroe, NC, Joan Boivin of Concord, MA, Jacqueline Trainer and her husband John of Nashua, NH, Joseph Boivin and his wife Lori of Tiverton, RI, Peter Boivin and his wife Marcia of Ave Maria, FL and Renee Carvajal and her husband John of Hammondsport, NY, 15 grandchildren, his brother, Donald Boivin and his wife Paula of Roseville, CA, his sister, Anne Marie Dufrane and her husband Kenneth of Granby, CT, his brother-in-law, James Buckley and his wife Lucinda of Malden Bridge, NY, his sister-in-law, Ann Then of Seaside, CA, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late John, Joseph and Robert Boivin.
Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 18th at 12 noon in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center.
Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord, where officers of the United States Army will present military honors.
Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on Friday, September 18th in recognition of LTC Boivin's service to his country in the U.S. Army.
