Lorraine E. (McGovern) Callahan, 84, affectionately known to many as Liz, died on March 31, 2026, following an extended illness. She was a longtime resident of Concord.
Born in Newton on October 16, 1941, she was the daughter of the late John and Lillian (Hathaway) McGovern.
After graduating from Newton North High School, Liz attended secretarial school and went on to work for Raytheon, Boldt Family Trust and VADAR Systems.
Liz’s most important life role was being a loving wife and mother. Her steadfast devotion to those she loved represented that family always came first. She belonged to the Red Hat Society for years, where she enjoyed many friendships. She also volunteered for Rosie’s Place.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of nearly 58 years, Donald J. Callahan of Concord, her sons, Donald Callahan Jr. and Jeffrey Callahan and his wife Sabine, all of California, two brothers, John H. McGovern and Tom McGovern, along with several nieces and nephews, including Kristen Vessey. Liz was the sister of the late Janice McGovern and Carol Larsen.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Tuesday, April 7th from 4 to 7 pm at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday, April 8th beginning at 9 am from Dee Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 am in St. Bernard’s Church at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial will follow in St. Bernard’s Cemetery, Concord.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a contribution in Liz’s memory to a cancer charity of one’s choice.
