Obituary

Lauren M. (Cooperstein) Corduck, age 49, of Acton and Wellfleet, died peacefully on December 24, 2020 at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln, MA. She was the devoted wife of Robb Corduck, and the loving mother of Esther and Bram Corduck. Born in Boston on January 31, 1971, Lauren was raised in Sherborn and graduated from Dover-Sherborn High School. She continued her studies at The University of Wisconsin, Madison and Case Western University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she earned a master's degree in Non-Profit Management. Lauren had a long and successful career in non-profit management. She held positions as Development Director at both NFTE (National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship) and Neighborworks America. Lauren was Executive Director of Solutions at Work in Cambridge for several years. There she helped lead the organization on its mission to end homelessness and eradicate poverty through their clothing assistance, moving assistance and child support programs. In 2017, Lauren was diagnosed with Stage IV ovarian cancer as a result of a BRCA1 genetic mutation. While undergoing chemotherapy, Lauren founded Oneinforty ,Inc. (www.oneinforty.org). Oneinforty's mission is to raise awareness of the significantly higher risk that Jews of Ashkenazi heritage have of inheriting the BRCA1 and BRCA2 gene mutations. These mutations lead to extremely high incidence of female and male breast cancer, ovarian cancer and prostate cancer. As Founder and Executive Director, Lauren presented numerous symposia at synagogues throughout Massachusetts. She influenced cancer guideline policy with NCCN in Washington, DC. Lauren also facilitated programs for medical professionals to help educate at risk populations. Lauren's story has been chronicled in the Boston Globe, New York Times, Times of Israel, and on National Public Radio, among others. By reaching thousands of people, she helped so many avoid pain and suffering. Lauren was most at peace in nature. She had a deep affinity for the Massachusetts Audubon Sanctuaries, especially the Wellfleet Wild Life Sanctuary and Audubon's Camp Wildwood in Rindge, NH. The Cape Cod National Seashore, the kettle ponds of Wellfleet and Truro, and the Bayside beaches of the outer Cape were sacred places of peace and comfort. Provincetown's bustle was her invigoration. Lauren loved gardening and was a member of Acton's Community Gardens. Cooking for friends and family with the bounty from her garden gave her immense pleasure. Above all else, Lauren's love and dedication to her children was ever present. She instilled in them the very qualities she most cared about. Lauren was a member of Kerem Shalom in Concord. In addition to her husband and children, Lauren will be forever missed by her beloved parents, Bob and Betty (Ollman) Cooperstein of Wayland, and her brother, Matthew Cooperstein. She was the daughter-in-law of Robert and Jeanne (Condon) Corduck of Wells, ME, the sister-in-law to Benjamin and Sara Corduck of Woburn, MA and the niece of Peter & Joyce Ollman of Ashland, OR and Edward Cooperstein of Chelsea. She also leaves behind many cherished friends from childhood to the present. Due to COVID restrictions, Lauren will be laid to rest on Monday, December 28th at Woodlawn Cemetery in Acton. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. The video recording of her burial service is posted below.
