Born on December 8, 1919 in Brooklyn New York, Katherine Augusta Coupar died peacefully on December 8, 2014. The fourth of five children, Katherine, or Kay as she was known, went to James Madison High School in Brooklyn and graduated with a liberal arts degree from James Madison University in Virginia.
She held a variety of jobs, including teaching and as a clerk for Manhattan based shipping company, but her major life work was with the Red Cross which led her to spend a considerable amount of time in Japan during the Viet Nam war.
In the 1970s, she retired to Nashville where she lived near her sister Laird and Laird's family until 2005. In Nashville, she did volunteer work with UNICEF and was an active member in the choir at Brookmeade United Church of Christ.
In 2006 she moved with Laird to an assisted living facility in Concord, Massachusetts. While she outlived all of her siblings, Kay continued to enjoy the company of her nieces and nephews and their children, including Kathy Foster of Easton, Laurie Foster of Concord and John Foster of Lexington, up until her death.
The family is holding a private memorial service.
