Joyce (Yanchar) Brinner, 67, of Ocean Ridge, Florida, formerly of Wellesley, Concord, Boston and Marblehead, MA, and Euclid OH, died Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. She was the treasured wife of Roger E. Brinner. After courageously and optimistically battling five different cancers over an incredibly unfair 28 year span, Joyce ultimately succumbed. In spite of such challenges she lived a profoundly positive life, inspiring her whole family and immense circle of close friends with her good cheer, her wisdom, and most of all her determination to share her love generously. Children were her particular source of joy. And when you became her friend, you were her very close friend forever, as dozens of "gal friends" from her childhood on will attest.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio on September 17, 1948 she was the daughter of the late James and Jean (Planisek) Yanchar. Joyce was a communicant of the Roman Catholic Church. She attended Euclid public schools and graduated from Euclid High School in 1966. She received a Bachelor degree from Ohio University in 1970, a Master's degree in Mathematics from Ohio State University in 1971 and a PhD in Economics from Boston College in 1985. Dr. Brinner had a distinguished career in economics research and consulting. For over 20 years, Joyce was one of the very senior people focusing on macroeconomic, energy and consumer consulting at the pioneering, elite firm, Data Resources, Inc.
She was a very active member of the Ocean Club of Florida and the Country Club of Florida. She loved children, travel, playing games, and spending many leisurely activities with family and friends. There exists no more impassioned Red Sox or Patriots fan than Joyce, and every link of family and friends seemed to spawn passionate rooting for yet another college football team! She and Roger endlessly enjoyed interacting with their "little ones," the children or children's children of her big circle.
In addition to her husband, Roger, she is tied forever to: her loved siblings, James Yanchar (Jan), twin sisters Jacqueline Yanchar and Bonita Hippensteel, and twin brother Rollin Yanchar (Lisa); her very caring step-daughters Kristin Brinner (with Chris Novak) and Kathryn (Brinner) Brigham (with Chris Brigham), the parents of her adoring three grandchildren--who affectionately and insistently called her "Gram" --Jack Brigham, Anna Brigham and Kaitlyn Brinner Novak; Roger's twin, her loving brother-in-law Richard Brinner (Jennifer); and many adored nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, and god-children. Joyce loved greatly, and was loved greatly!
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 16th at 10 am in Holy Family Parish at St. Bernard's Church, Monument Square, Concord MA.
If you wish, flowers are welcome or, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, in honor of Joyce and the eminent and caring medical teams of Dr. George Canellos and Dr. Peter Enzinger.
