Obituary

Josephine A. (Sapega) Orlando, 91, of Concord, died Thursday, August 30. She was the beloved wife of 66 years of Peter P. Orlando. They were married in 1946 at St. Mark's Church in Dorchester. Born in Boston on March 15, 1921 she was the daughter of the late Simon and Anna (Gately) Sapega. She attended South Boston public schools and graduated at the age of sixteen from South Boston High School, where she excelled in her studies. She then attended Boston Secretarial School. During World War II, she worked in the mail and record department at the Watertown Arsenal. For 18 years, prior to her retirement in 1984, she was employed in Technical Services Department, affectionately known as the "coal bin," at the Concord Free Public Library. Previously, during the 1960's, she worked in the Guidance Office and the Library at Concord-Carlisle High School. A resident of Concord since 1953, her greatest love was her family. She thoroughly enjoyed celebrating every milestone of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to garden and was an amazing propagator of the tiniest leaf, and was known to rescue plants from K-mart at the end of the growing season, giving them a second chance at flourishing. She was a voracious reader, a knock out cook, a talented seamstress and light on her feet. Her warmth was genuine, and although she was a sympathetic listener, she didn't hold back on good advice for clean living. In addition to her husband, Peter, she is survived by two sons, Peter Orlando Jr. and his wife Liz of Branchburg, New Jersey and Robert Orlando and his wife Nancy of Carlisle, three daughters, Susan Pierce and her husband Doug of Boxborough, Janet Trask and her husband Rick of Mashpee and Patti Orlando Sims of Grafton, 18 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews. Cemetery: Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord. Visitation: Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM. Service: Funeral will be held on Monday, September 3rd at 9 AM from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 10 AM.
