Obituary

Joseph M. Rotondo of Freeport, Maine, formerly of Concord and Acton, Massachusetts, passed away on July 12, 2023, at the age of 85.

Joe was born in Concord, Massachusetts, to the late Pasquale and Anna (Donato) Rotondo. Joe was a family-oriented, dedicated, hard-working, supportive, and generous man who will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

Joe graduated from Concord High School in 1956 and went on to attend Babson College, graduating in 1959. Following his education, he served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Lexington from 1961 until 1963.

After his military service, Joe embarked on a successful career. He worked as a John Hancock Insurance Agent until his retirement in 1992. Additionally, Joe owned and operated Brookside Farm Antiques and Furniture with his wife, Helen, with locations in Acton, MA, and later Freeport, ME.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Joe had a passion for gardening, renovating barns, and travel. He was a lifelong gardener, finding joy in nurturing plants and creating beautiful and productive gardens from which he shared his bounty. Joe's passion for renovating barns gave them new life and purpose while giving him great satisfaction. He also enjoyed traveling to spend time with family and friends, and explore different parts of the country and Europe. Joe was an active member of the Freeport Rotary Club, where he contributed to numerous community projects, served a year as its President, and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow. We are grateful to the friends, neighbors, and Rotarians who made his life in Maine complete.

Joe is survived by his brother, Fortunato (Frank) Rotondo, his loving wife of 44 years, Helen (Jennekens) (Robbertz) Rotondo, and their children: Anthony and Paul Robbertz, Margaret (Robbertz) Koch, Richard Robbertz, Mark Rotondo and Kathleen (Rotondo) Quinn. Joe leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his grandchildren: Matthew and Andrew Robbertz, Eric and Hannah Robbertz; Whitney, Chelsea, and Allison Koch; Tessa, Abigail, and Gabriel Robbertz; Elias, Joseph, Jessica, and Sara Rotondo; and Rosemary and Leanne Quinn. Additionally, he is fondly remembered by his nephews: James and Joseph Rotondo, James and Kevin Doody, and nieces: Mary Ann Westfall, Carol Rotondo, and Ann Marie (Rotondo) Council. In addition to his parents, Joe is predeceased by his first wife Anne (Doody), sisters Martha (Rotondo) Westfall and Mary Rotondo, and brothers Peter and John Rotondo.

Joe will be remembered for his love, dedication, and generosity. His impact on the lives of his family, friends, and community will be cherished and celebrated for years to come.
