IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph "Jay"
Cannon, Jr.
December 5, 1952 – July 3, 2023
Joseph F. Cannon, Jr., of Lunenburg, known as Jay to his family and friends, died at Massachusetts General Hospital on Monday, July 3, 2023 at the age of 70. Jay was the loving husband and high school sweetheart of Rayah Abraham-Cannon, with whom he shared 31 years of marriage.
He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on December 5, 1952 as the beloved son of the late Joseph and Marjorie (Choyce) Cannon. He grew up in Concord, and graduated with the class of 1970 from Concord-Carlisle High School.
Jay's number one priority in life was his family. Nothing made him happier than growing the bonds with those he loved most. He embodied a rich passion for history, and was a proud longtime member of the Concord Minute Men. Jay was an avid automobile and Hotrod enthusiast. He treasured his Harley, along with his active membership with the Red Knights Motorcycle Club. He had a creative spirit, whether it was various carving projects or making things for his grandchildren. He admired nature and the outdoors. Jay was selfless, always willing to lend a hand without hesitation. He was a dear, loyal friend to many.
In addition to his wife and best friend, Rayah, his memory will live on through his three children, Matthew Cannon, Patrick Cannon and Lexie Smith, his grandchildren, Nick, Joey, Dylan, Isabelle, Benjamin, Zoey, Owen, Mickey and Lilly, his siblings, Patty Martin, Kathy Shortsleeves, Maureen Cannon, John Cannon and Bill Cannon, his nephew, Mark Cannon and three nieces, Annie Cannon, Emily Shortsleeves and Kelley Shortsleeves.
Family and friends will celebrate Jay's life during a memorial gathering at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on Sunday, July 16th from 1 to 3 pm, with a time of remembrance beginning at 2:30 pm.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at MGH for their exceptional and loving care, especially the lung team. Jay underwent a double lung transplant in May of 2022 after being diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis a few years prior. During the years of his illness and hospitalizations, Jay fought hard, remaining courageous and determined until the time he peacefully passed.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Clear Path for Veterans .
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
A time of remembrance will begin at 2:30 pm
