Obituary

Joseph Francis Heffernan, 79, of Marlborough, Mass and Bridgton, Maine, a former 40 year resident of Concord, Mass died Friday, June 25, 2010 at Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Maine. He was the beloved husband of 52 years of Claire L. (Slattery) Heffernan, former English teacher at Concord-Carlisle High School. Born in Cambridge, Mass on September 13, 1930 he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Helen G. (O'Loughlin) Heffernan. He resided at Raytheon Corporation in Bedford, MA and MA-COM Associates in Burlington, MA. An Avid Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan, he was a former youth baseball and hockey coach for Concord youth baseball and hockey coach for Concord youth sports. More recently he has been a communicant at St. Bernardette Church in Marlborough, Mass. His favorite pastime was spending summers in Maine with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition to his wife Claire, survivors include his two sons, John J. Heffernan and his wife Christine and their two children Bryan and David, all of Groton, MA, Edward J. Heffernan andhis wife Gretchen and their two children, Sean and Meghan, all of Plano, Texas and his daughter Elizabeth M. Pierson and her husband Jedd of Southborough, Mass. Visitation was held on Tuesday, June 29th from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Dee funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Funeral was held on Wednesday, June 30th from the Dee Funeral Home followed by a funeral Mass at 12 noon in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. Interment followed in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concor. Cemetery: Interment will follow the Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. Visitation: Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, June 29th from 4 to 8 p.m. Service: Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, June 30th at 12 noon in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center.
