Joseph J. Girardi, 90, of Maynard, formerly of Concord, died on Friday, August 26, 2016 at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband for 59 years of Nesta E. (Roberts) Girardi.
Born in Concord on August 11, 1926, he was the son of the late John and Kathleen (Silva) Girardi. In his youth, he attended Concord Public Schools.
During World War II, Mr. Girardi served as a Private in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
Mr. Girardi owned and operated several roadside farm stands during his career, beginning in Marlborough and Acton. Later, he ran Cook's Farm in Lincoln and Maplewood Farm in Concord.
He was a parishioner at St. Bridget Parish in Maynard, and was a member of the Maynard Lodge of Elks and the American Legion Post # 235 in Maynard.
He was an enthusiastic football and baseball fan, and loved playing cards, especially Poker. In addition, he enjoyed spending winters in Florida for the past fifty years.
In addition to his wife, Nesta, he is survived by several loving nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Angelina Buscemi, Phyllis Mariano, Frank Girardi, and Mary Zaino.
Funeral will be held on Friday, September 2nd at 7:30 am from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, followed by a funeral Mass at 9 am in St. Bridget Parish, 1 Percival Street, Maynard.
Burial will follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Sudbury where representatives from the United States Army will recognize Mr. Girardi's service by rendering military honors.
Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home are on Thursday, September 1st from 4 to 7 pm. Officers and members of the Maynard Lodge of Elks will conduct an Elks memorial service at 6:30 pm.
