Joseph J. Gallagher, age 82, of Concord, MA, died on May 18, 2020, following a long illness. For 56 years, he was the beloved husband of Bonnie (Foley) Gallagher.
Joe was born in Boston on August 10, 1937 to his late parents, Patrick and Mary Gallagher. He attended high school in Boston, where he participated on the track team. During his studies at Boston University, he was a member of the school's sailing team. Subsequently, he earned a master's degree from Drexel College in Philadelphia.
Joe worked as a Mechanical Engineer in the defense industry, which included a career spanning thirty-two years at Raytheon. He embodied a lifelong passion for sailing, and enjoyed wintering in Venice, Florida for nearly twenty years.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind two sons, Aaron Gallagher and his wife Cathy and Chad Gallagher and his wife Amy, four grandchildren, Seth, Sidney, Owen, and Emma, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of Marie Attwood and the late Helen Whitman and Thomas Gallagher.
Due to current restrictions in light of COVID-19, family members will gather for a private burial service at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord.
