Joseph J. Fasano, 87 ,of Concord, died Saturday, December 10,2011 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the beloved husband of 52 years of Mary L.(Arena) Fasano. Born in South Boston on June 14,1924 he was the son of the late Francis X. and Bridgette A. (McGinley) Fasano. He attended Boston public schools. In 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. He was sent to Camp Pickett, Virginia where he was transferred from the U. S. Army Medical Corps to the U. S. Air Force. He was stationed in Atlantic City, New Jersey; Buckley Field, Colorado and Lowry Field, Colorado where he was trained in gun sight maintenance. He was then sent to Indianapolis, Indiana for a six-week turret and further study in gun sight maintenance and then to Muroc Army Base in California. He joined the 456th Bomb Group and was assigned to overseas duty. He left by boat from Port Norfolk, Virginia on December 13, 1943 arriving in Naples, Italy on January 21, 1944 and was stationed at Stonara Air Field where bombing raids were made. When the war ended, he left Italy on July 19, 1945 and arrived in Virginia on July 29, 1945. On September 11, 1945 he was honorably discharged from Fort Devens, Massachusetts. For thirty-five years, prior to his retirement, Mr. Fasano was employed at Nuclear Metals in Concord. A long time resident of Concord, he was a volunteer guide for the Concord Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Concord Minutemen Association, a member of the Concord and Bedford Knights of Columbus and past Commander of the Boston Harbor Yacht Club. In addition to his beloved wife, Mary, he is survived by his sister, Mary Quatromoni of Milton and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great grandnieces and great grandnephews. He was also the brother of the late Francis X. Fasano, Catherine Russo, William Fasano and John Fasano. Funeral will be held on Wednesday, December 14th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center at 9 AM followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 10 AM. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord where officers of the U. S. Army will present military honors. Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday, December 13th from 4 to 8 PM. Concord's town flag will be at half-staff on Wednesday in recognition of Mr. Fasano's service to his country during World War II.
