Jonathan Hokong Tang, 34, passed away unexpectedly on January 1st, 2017. Jon was born in Boston, MA on April 12th, 1982 to Ken and Rebecca Tang. He grew up in Carlisle, MA where he graduated from Concord-Carlisle Regional High School. He attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst where he majored in engineering, and was a passionate brother of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. Residing in Allston, MA for over ten years, he was a talented, and respected engineer who earned his MBA at his alma mater. Recently, he was most proud of his promotion at Vertex Pharmaceuticals. One of Jon's greatest accomplishments was surviving pediatric cancer. He battled leukemia at the age of sixteen, and never looked back. Jon was purely genuine, fiercely loyal, and extremely punctual. To say he was loved by many is sorely inadequate. The countless lives he touched will remember his contagious smile, zest for life, and his traditional values in pig roasting and Thanksmas. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, or tell a funny joke to crack a smile. No matter where life took him or his loved ones, he was always referred to as the "glue" that bonded everyone together. His passions included martial arts, camping, hiking, and rock climbing. Jon also enjoyed cooking; he loved meats and cheeses, but hated cilantro. He was a devoted kickball player for many years, and won multiple league championships with the Bootleggers. Jon could be considered a science fiction "geek", who had more books on the subject matter than should be allowed. During the past few years he embraced a new role in life; he was loved by numerous friends' children who adoringly referred to him as "Uncle Tang". Jon's vibrant spirit will be forever cherished by those who he leaves behind. He is survived by his parents Kenneth Kai Chi and Rebecca Sui Ching Tang of Carlisle, MA; his brother Stephen Hofung Tang and future sister-in-law Mary Petroff of Boston, MA; his maternal grandmother of Toronto, Canada; multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many, many friends. The family will receive all those who loved Jon at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA on Sunday, January 8th, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 9th, 2017 at the First Religious Society, 27 School Street, Carlisle, MA. Burial will immediately follow at Green Cemetery in Carlisle, MA. In honor of Jon, all male attendants are invited to wear bow ties, excluding the color red, to all services listed above. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
