This award was established "to encourage high standards of journalism" and was judged on good writing and on the basis of public interest. Mr. Riley was married to Patricia for 45 years before her death in 1988 and lived on Woburn Parkway where they raised their five children, Patricia, Joan, Janice, John and Deborah. In his retirement years he took up golfing and shot a hole-in-one at Pine Meadows Country Club, Lexington in 1987.
