John J. Florio, 84, lifelong Concord resident, died Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Concord Health Care Center in Concord. Born in Concord on March 23, 1927 he was the son of the late Egidio and Chiara (Jocca) Florio. He attended Concord public schools and graduated from Concord High School. During World War II and the Korean Conflict, he served as a Seaman First Class in the U. S. Navy aboard the USS George McKenna Destroyer and the USS Constitution in Boston. He was stationed in Japan. For many years, prior to his retirement, Mr. Florio was a custodian at Sentry Insurance Company in Concord. He is survived by his cousins Mary and Frank Giles of Waltham, Carmen and Margaret Spinelli of Concord, Eileen Murphy of Stow and many other cousins. He was the brother of the late Margaret Florio. Cemetery:
A military burial and service was held in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord. Officers of the U. S. Navy presented military honors. Concord's town flag was flown at half-staff on Saturday in recognition of Mr. Florio's service to his country during WW II and the Korean Conflict.
