1949 John 2026

John G. Dockendorff

Dec 6, 1949 — May 26, 2026

John Goldthwaite Dockendorff, of Concord, MA, passed away on May 26, 2026 at the age of 76.

John grew up in New Canaan, Connecticut. He attended the Hotchkiss School, graduating in 1967, followed by earning a BA degree from Yale University in 1971.

After he enjoyed some time traveling and working in San Francisco, John moved back east to New York City and worked in finance. In 1975, he started working at the Bank of New York, becoming a Vice President in 1982. He later moved to the retail side and was employed at Dean Witter Reynolds in the city.

John relocated to Minneapolis around 1989, where he worked for Piper Jaffrey. After Piper closed their office, John joined RBC Dain Rauscher where he was First Vice President of Institutional Equity Sales from 1992 to 1998 in their Minneapolis office. A few years later, he decided to retire.

John always kept close ties to family and friends with visits on the east coast including Massachusetts and Gulf Stream, Florida.

In his spare time, he took joy in the simple pleasures – a combination of reading, cooking, watching old movies and daily errands.  John also was an avid admirer, collector, and sometime racer of fast cars -- ideally of the vintage and Italian type. For more than 40 years he shepherded a 1971 Lamborghini Miura and, perhaps the greatest love of his life, a 1969 Maserati Ghibli through salty winters, slick summers, and the occasional ice cream. John was rarely happier than driving perhaps a little over the speed limit in a beautiful car.

John is lovingly survived by his sister, Janet Dockendorff Ballou and her husband Fred, his niece Abigail Ballou Blake and her husband Phil, along with great nephew Myles Blake, his nephew, Caleb A. Dockendorff Ballou and wife Rachel, along with great nephew Otis Ballou and great niece Winifred Ballou. He was the Godfather to Jeremiah Day, Will Hiltz Jr. and Marilla Hiltz.

A memorial gathering of family and friends will be planned at a later date.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
