John Philip "Jack" Dawley, of Concord, passed away on July 28, 2022. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 60 years, Susan. He leaves his loving sister, Sr. Ruth Dawley, Sisters of the Holy Child, of Portland, OR, daughters Elizabeth and husband John Hanson of Boston, Ellen and husband George Hoyem of Hillsborough, CA, and son John and wife Abby Dawley of Villanova, PA. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Abigail Titus (Madden) and Julia Hanson, Lindsey, Caroline and Zachary Hoyem, and Olivia and Christian Dawley. He is also predeceased by his sisters Mary Bryan, Sr. Jane Dawley, Sisters of the Holy Child, and brothers Frank, Joseph, Walter and Robert Dawley.
Born in Melrose, MA on August 24, 1929, to the late James and Mary (Colbert) Dawley, Jack attended school in Melrose and went on to be a proud "triple Eagle", graduating from Boston College High School, Boston College, and Boston College Law School. After serving as a Commissioned Officer in the US Navy during the Korean War, he began a long career in corporate law, labor relations, and human resources at General Electric, American Optical, Harris Communications, and finally at Contel in Atlanta, GA. During those years, he and Susan raised the family in Warwick, RI, Fairfield, CT and Concord, MA.
Jack spent most of his time in retirement on his philanthropy. He always cared deeply about access to education and made it his mission to provide endowed support for students in need, not only at his alma mater but also in supporting families and students through the Campaign for Catholic Schools in Boston. He was devoted to helping the schools in the diocese of Fall River and was very proud of his contributions in support of that network.
He and Susan enjoyed their homes in Boston and Osterville, MA and Naples, FL. Jack was a member of the Oyster Harbors Club in Osterville.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours on Thursday, August 4th from 5 to 7 pm at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish, 28 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, MA on Friday, August 5th at 10am, followed by a reception. Private burial will take place later that day at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Centerville, MA.
