JoEllen (Maliff) Murphy, age 84, of Concord, died Friday, May 6th at her Concord home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife for 59 years of Alfred "Al" Murphy. They were married on May 4, 1957.
Born in Cambridge on April 16, 1932 she was the daughter of the late William F. and Helen M. (Coleman) Maliff.
JoEllen was a native of Belmont, and attended Mount Alvernia Academy in Newton. She later received her undergraduate degree in Economics from the College of New Rochelle in New York.
A Concord resident since 1963, she was an active parishioner at Holy Family Parish where she served as a Eucharistic Minister and taught in the CCD program. She was a member and former president of the Milldames of Concord, and volunteered for many years as a driver for Friends in Service Helping (FISH) in Concord. JoEllen loved the outdoors, nature, and family sing-alongs.
In addition to her husband, Al, she is survived by her children, Paul Murphy and his wife Susan of Sturbridge, David Murphy and his wife Patricia of Northborough, Eileen Flannery and her husband Kevin of Concord, Sheila Murphy and her husband John of Brunswick, ME, Julianne Beyer and her husband Joseph of Concord, and Virginia Murphy of East Boston, her grandchildren, Caitlin Lonergan, Hillary, Meredith, Marlena, Teresa, and Jack Murphy, Ben and Cy Beyer, and Michael Flannery, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Carolyn M. Carroll.
Funeral will be held on Wednesday, May 11th at 9 am from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center.
Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.
Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home are Tuesday, May 10th from 4 to 8 pm.
