Obituary

Joan McIntyre Tilton, of Canton, MA, and Wells, ME, and formerly Concord, MA, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 15, 2025.

She was born on February 20, 1934, in Laconia, NH, and was the beloved daughter of John and Elva McIntyre. Joan was married for 55 years to her high school sweetheart, Frederick A. Tilton Jr., who passed away before her.

While attending Laconia High School, Joan was recognized both locally and nationally as a talented public speaker. She represented New Hampshire at the 1952 Eisenhower rally in Madison Square Garden. After high school, she went to the University of New Hampshire and was a proud member of the Chi Omega sorority.

Joan and Fred moved to Concord in 1959, where they built a life full of love, laughter, and strong friendships. Joan was deeply committed to her community and was active in the CCHS Booster Club, the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary, and the League of Women Voters. She enjoyed her years working at the Country Store of Concord and Nature Company. Her outgoing personality made every customer feel like family.

Joan loved spending time at the beaches in Maine and the lakes of New Hampshire and enjoyed traveling to Anguilla with close friends. She treasured her family and was always there to cheer and support her children and grandchildren at sporting events, activities, and performances. She lived life to the fullest and her energy and spirit will remain with us forever.

Joan is survived by her brother, John McIntyre, and his wife, Rae, and her sisters-in-law, Marylee Tilton Ayre and Elizabeth "Liz" Tilton. Her loving family includes Frederick Tilton III and his wife Michelle Amato, John Tilton and his wife Catie, Daniel Tilton, and Elizabeth Boucher and her husband Timothy. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Molly Tilton, Eleanor McKew and her husband Colin, Jacqueline Bonarrigo and her husband Joseph, Michael Tilton and his wife Maureen Cottrell, Colleen Boucher, Katherine Hanley and her husband Matthew, Steven Boucher, Daniel Tilton, and Matthew Tilton, as well as her great-granddaughter Ayla Hanley.
