Acton, MA - Major Jerry A. Miller, USAF (Ret.). 79, a resident of Acton for 36 years, died Sunday February 15, 2015 in Acton. He was the beloved husband of 40 years of Margaret J. Miller.
Born in Mendota, Virginia on May 4, 1935 he was the son of the late William Gale Miller and Addie Blanche (Fleenor) Miller. He grew up in Pylesville, Maryland, attended the United Methodist Church in Pylesville and was a 1953 graduate of North Harford, MD High School. He later attended VPI in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Major Miller began his military service in the U. S. Air Force in 1956, serving as a pilot during the Vietnam War, retiring in 1977. He received his Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering while serving in the Air Force.
Following his military service, he was employed as a Government Defense contractor for Raytheon, Dynamics Research Corporation, Mitre and other companies in the area, retiring in 2009.
He was a member and treasurer of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge A.F. and A.M. in Concord.
An accomplished baritone saxophone player, he played in high school and college and later for Maynard Community Band, Shriner's Band and Masonic Swing Band.
A long time private pilot, he was a former member of the Hanscom Aero Club and the Order of Daedalians. He also was an avid stamp and coin collector and genealogist.
In addition to his wife Margaret, he was the father of Mark Miller and his wife Trina of Virginia Beach, VA, Thomas Miller and his wife Lori Ann of New Park, PA, Jerri Ellen DeFilippis and her husband David of Medford, Peter Zoppo and his wife Erin of Hubbardston, Michael Miller and his wife Bonnie of Omaha, NE, and the late Eric Miller. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and was the brother of the late Patsy Merryman.
Funeral will be held Monday Feb. 23rd from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER at 9 am followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 10 am.
Interment will follow in Mass. Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Winchendon.
Visiting hours are Sunday Feb. 22nd from 1 to 4 pm.
