Obituary

Jennie (DeLuca) D'Ambrosio 94, wife of the late Rev. Dr. Francis A. D'Ambrosio, passed away peacefully December 19, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family. Born September 17, 1921 on Charter St in the North End of Boston, Jennie was the youngest of five children of Santa and Antonino DeLuca. All her siblings have predeceased her. Jennie and Frank, married 68 years, were blessed with nine children; daughter Rosemary and Gianfranco Verri of Sudbury, daughter SantaJean and Phil DeSantis of Framingham, daughter Nina and the late Bruce Forde of Woburn, son Joseph and Gail of Groton, son Dr. Francis and Rosanne of Concord, son Anthony and Pam of Concord, daughter Anne and the late Jim Robinson of Concord, daughter Dolores and Frank Granato of Concord, son Dr. Paul and Fredel of Concord. The D'Ambrosio family includes 31 grandchildren and 42 great grandchildren. Jennie also leaves many cherished nieces and nephews. In her final days she especially enjoyed the weekly visits of her nieces Nancy Gannon and Sandra Spera and appreciated the loving care of Eric and Theresa Bunao and the Ascend Hospice team. Jennie spent her early years in Concord volunteering where needed in the schools and church. She was President of the Parents' Association of Rose Hawthorne School in Concord, active with the Ladies' Sodality at Our Lady Help of Christians in West Concord and the Emerson Hospital Auxiliary. Family was most important to Jennie and Frank. Because her mother in law was widowed very young, she lived with Jennie and Frank for 52 years. Other extended family members lived at their home for periods of time. Jennie was always welcoming family, friends, neighbors, patients, and parishioners with her home cooked meals and beautiful smile. The Concord family home was a bustling place. The D'Ambrosios were a skiing family. Frank and Jennie skied until they were 80 and also loved to travel in their later years, especially to Jennie's family in Sicily. The home of 63 years in Concord and until her last days has been the gathering place for all holidays and family events. In fact into her early eighties, Jennie was preparing her gourmet Italian dishes for all special occasions. Frank and Jennie's devotion to each other for 75 years (including courtship), and their dedication to their family is a far reaching legacy. The children and grandchildren continue to embrace the importance of nightly family dinners, celebrating milestones, enjoying family vacations and most importantly worshipping together. A sign in their kitchen reads 'All because two people fell in love'. Jennie's warmth, compassion, positive outlook and loving nature will be missed immensely by her family. Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 23rd at 1:30 pm in Holy Family Parish at St. Bernard's Church, Monument Square, Concord. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, December 22nd from 3 to 7:30 pm in Holy Family Parish at St. Bernard's Church.
