IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean M.
Sain
October 6, 1932 – December 20, 2022
Jean M. (Sloat) Sain, 90, of Carlisle, passed away at her residence in Weston on December 20, 2022, surrounded by her loving husband of 66 years, Jack A. Sain, and her five adoring children.
Jean was born in Columbia, Pennsylvania on October 6, 1932 to her late parents, Ray and Anna (Schlegelmilch) Sloat. She was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, attended West Philadelphia Catholic Girls High School, and spent her childhood summers at her mother's country home in Marietta PA.
After marrying, Jean and Jack raised their 5 children in Palos Verdes, CA, Alexandria, VA, and then settled Carlisle, MA where they spent the last 50 years. Prior to retirement, Jean worked in the Finance industry as an Executive Assistant.
Jean was a devoted and engaged member of her beloved church, St. Irene's in Carlisle. She held a leadership role in the Women's Club, sat on the Board of the Carlisle Council on Aging for many years, volunteered at Minuteman Senior Services in Bedford, MA, and tirelessly lent her support to the schools, local events and organizations in her community. Always giving selflessly, Jean's countless contributions – always delivered with a smile – helped make her community a warm and welcoming one.
Throughout her life, Jean maintained a range of interests. She enjoyed tennis, bird watching, stamping and creating homemade cards, long walks in the woods, traveling the world, and visiting friends and relatives across the country and beyond. She was a wonderful story teller, and whether the story was an anecdote from the previous day or a favorite tale from her adventurous life, she made each story funny and uniquely entertaining. She adored her husband, and treasured her children and grandchildren, who brought her the greatest joy in life. Jean will be remembered for her generosity, graciousness, humor, elegance, loving spirit, and her heart-warming smile.
Jean is survived by her husband, Jack, her loving children, Joseph Sain and his wife Jennifer Sheldrick of Tyngsboro, MA; Tricia Foster and her wife Dawne Gillan of Tewksbury, MA; David Sain and his partner Jeannette Voyer of Amherst, NH,; Veronica Voner and her husband Thomas of St. Helena Island, SC; and Theresa Sain and her husband Sivan Kartha of Lexington, MA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Stephanie Sain, Christopher Sain, Jack Voner, Colleen Voner, Jayan Kartha, Jonathan Sheehan, and Elizabeth Sheehan, and two of her siblings, Therese O'Connor of Poughkeepsie, NY and Barbara Quaintance of Drexel Hill, PA.
Family and friends are invited to Jean's Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 7th at 11 am in St. Irene Parish, 181 East Street, Carlisle. Please click here to view the church livestream . A reception will immediately follow in the parish hall.
