Janet F. (Whalen) Gainer, age 74, a longtime Lincoln resident, died at Emerson Hospital on April 8, 2022, following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife for 54 years of Carl D. Gainer, Sr.
Janet was born in Waltham on October 24, 1947 to her late parents, William and Mary (Manning) Whalen. She grew up in Lincoln where she was active with the Girl Scouts, and graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School in 1966. During her youth, she also worked for the original Hartwell Farm.
She was employed as an Insurance Underwriter for numerous agencies throughout her professional life, including Sentry and Liberty Mutual. More recently, Janet was a familiar, friendly face at CVS in Concord as a Beauty Advisor. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting as well as collecting snow babies and angel figurines. Those who knew and loved Janet will fondly treasure her caring and empathetic nature.
In addition to her husband, she leaves behind one son, Carl D. Gainer, Jr. of Melbourne, FL along with one grandson, Evan Gainer Thompson, three brothers, William B. Whalen, Jr. and his wife Ginnie of Concord, David Whalen and his wife Jacqueline of Lincoln and John M. Whalen of Ayer, an uncle, James E. Whalen of Wildomar, CA, and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins.
Family and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours on Wednesday, April 13th from 4 to 7 pm in Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Janet's funeral service will take place on Thursday, April 14th at 10 am in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lincoln Cemetery.
