Patricia Jane Kacher, beloved and devoted Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and friend, died October 18th at Kaplan House in Danvers, Massachusetts after a prolonged illness.
Jane was born on March 17 in Bournemouth, England, daughter of Wilfred Reginald Swallow Edgelow and Zena Ullathorne Ward Edgelow (nee Rose).
Jane spent the Second World War years with her mother, sisters and grandparents at Grove House in Ringwood, Hampshire, whilst father was serving in India and Burma. After the war the family moved to Queens Park Avenue in Bournemouth and then to Ferndown in Dorset. Jane went to Talbot Heath School in Bournemouth until she left school and the family then moved to Shepperton in Middlesex in 1955/56. She met her close friend Jean Fowler when they were teenagers. Jane was worked as a receptionist at Haliford Studios until she was able to take up her place at nursing school. She also did the voice over for a hot chocolate drink advertisement whilst working at the studios!
Jane studied nursing at St. Bartholomew's Hospital in London and received her degree in Theoretical and Practical Nursing in 1961. From there she went on to pursue her career in Bermuda where she met her future husband and Chris's father, Len Kacher. They were married in Shepperton. Throughout her life Jane regularly visited family in Shepperton and at Grove House in Ringwood and Jean at her home in Staines, Middlesex.
After her marriage, Jane and Len travelled extensively, with stints in Washington, DC, Bangkok Thailand and Florida, and Jane continued her nursing work throughout this time. Finally settling in Mililani, Hawaii where she worked for Dr. William Wilkinson for over twenty years.
When her first grandson was born, Jane began splitting her time between Kapolei, HI and Concord. She was active in Concord, supporting her grandsons in all of their activities, and especially enjoyed swimming with the ladies at the Thoreau club.
Jane is survived by her son, Chris Kacher and daughter-in-law Cynthia Rainey of Concord MA. Jane's greatest joy was spending time with her two grandsons John Kacher and Ben Kacher also of Concord, MA. She is also survived by her sister Angela Smalley and her husband Ralph, her brother Richard Edgelow all of Ringwood, England and her two nephews Matthew and Adam Smalley. She is also survived by her former husband, Len Kacher of Honolulu, Hawaii.
Visiting hours Tuesday Oct. 27th from 4 to 7 pm at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford St., CONCORD CENTER.
