February 12, 1929 – July 8, 2023
James F. McGinn, age 94, of Lexington, MA passed away peacefully surrounded by family on July 8, 2023, at the VA Bedford Healthcare System in Bedford. He was the husband of the late Angela Stifano McGinn, father of Janet Hession and her husband Paul of Canton, James M. McGinn and his wife April Hoover of Bonita Springs, FL, Kathryn McGinn and her husband Paul Swallow of Westwood, and Mary Tambor and her husband Patrick of Concord. He was the brother of the late Anna Rose Paul and Robert McGinn, and John McGinn, Joseph McGinn, Barbara Ciolfi, and Patricia Sylvestri. James is also survived by 8 grandchildren, Ellie and her husband Max, Philip, Natalie, Samuel, James, Andrew, Owen, and Mia, a great grandchild, Casey, and by many nieces and nephews.
Jim was born in Providence, RI on February 12, 1929 as the son of the late James and Anna (Rogers) McGinn. A veteran of WWII, he served in the United States Navy onboard the USS Winslow. He attended Brown University and received a Masters in Electrical Engineering from Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute. He retired after 30 years at the Mitre Corporation, working at NATO and living in Brussels during his last two years at Mitre, where he traveled around Europe with his beloved wife, Angela. They enjoyed running in 10K races together for many years. The quintessential home handyman, no project was too daunting. He was a life-long learner, lover of reading, food, and Beefeater gin and tonics. In his retirement, he took cooking classes with Angela and scuba diving lessons during the winter months spent in Florida. He leaves his family a legacy of a strong work ethic and acceptance of everyone's individual life choices. Jim lived his life to the fullest, enjoying every day as a gift.
A private celebration of life will be held with family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the VA Bedford Healthcare System, David James Hospice Unit, 200 Springs Road, Bedford, MA 01730.
Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
