James P. Gallagher, 88, of Concord, died peacefully on Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the beloved husband for 48 years of the late Catherine "Kathleen" (Burke) Gallagher who died in 2006.
Born in Boston on October 11, 1927, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary (Flatley) Gallagher. In his youth, he was raised in Mission Hill where he attended the Mission and Commerce High Schools.
During World War II, Mr. Gallagher served as a Technical Sergeant in the United States Army. Prior to his discharge in 1948, he was stationed in Fort Dix, New Jersey.
After graduating from Boston College in 1962, he was employed for thirty-four years by the United States Government, eventually retiring as Revenue Agent for the IRS.
He was a communicant at the former Our Lady Help of Christians Church in West Concord, and more recently at Holy Family Parish in Concord Center. He was also a longtime member of the American Legion of Boston.
Survivors include his children, Thomas J. Gallagher and his wife Karen of Lexington, James G. Gallagher of Concord, John P. Gallagher and his wife Marie M. Eustache of Concord, Vincent S. Gallagher of Concord, Brendan W. Gallagher of Concord, Moira G. TeeKing and her husband Dennis of Brookfield, CT, Teresa G. Luciano and her husband William of Foxboro, Catherine N. Josef and her husband John of Darien, CT, fifteen grandchildren, his sisters, Catherine Gallagher of Boston, Mary Leahy of Westwood, Frances Hensley of Boerne, TX, many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, as well as numerous relatives in Ireland. He was also the brother of the late John Gallagher and Ann Gallagher.
Funeral will be held on Friday, October 7th at 9 am from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center.
Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
Visiting hours are on Thursday, October 6th from 4 to 7 pm in the Dee Funeral Home.
Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on Friday, October 7th in recognition of Mr. Gallagher's service to his country in the United States Army.
