James Michael Dexter, 67, passed away at home in Harvard MA, while surrounded by family and friends on September 16, 2021. He had courageously battled Glioblastoma for the past nine months. Jamie was the devoted husband for 28 years of Catherine Callahan.
He was born on May 29, 1954, as the son of the late Everett and Kathleen (Keeley) Dexter. He was named after James Michael Curley, Mayor of Boston who gave Jamie's grandfather, Roger Keeley, his first job at Boston Gas after arriving to the United States from County Galway, Ireland. Born and raised in Concord, Jamie attended Rose Hawthorne and Xavier Schools, before graduating from Concord-Carlisle High School in 1972.
Jamie spent most of his professional career in the computer and IT industry as a Systems Engineer. He worked for the Town of Concord and Multi Plan, Inc. in Waltham. He was also the Founder and Proprietor of the Dexter Door Company.
A handy man who could fix anything, Jamie was renowned for his skill in all aspects of home improvement as well as automobiles and computers. He enjoyed reading, fishing and playing disc golf. He was a member of the Concord Elks, and was proud to hold a dual citizenship in Ireland and the United States. Jamie loved traveling, especially to Florida, Cape Cod and Ireland. He will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to family and his loyalty to friends.
In addition to his wife, Kate, he will be forever missed by four children, Jesse Dexter of Boston, Amy Dexter Lohr of Clinton, Julia Dexter of Harvard and Nathaniel Dexter of Harvard, two sisters, Katherine Cancelliere of New Hampshire, Ellen Joachim of Lunenburg, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Jamie's life during visiting hours on Thursday, September 30th from 4 to 8 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. At the family's request, masks are required inside the funeral home. A private burial service will be held the following day at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Concord.
