Obituary

James M. Britt, age 85, of Maynard and North Falmouth, formerly of Concord, died peacefully on Friday, December 25th at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband for 55 years of Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Jarmulowicz) Britt. Born in Boston on July 15, 1930 he was the ninth child of the late Michael and Sarah (Belson) Britt of West Concord and Acton, and the grandson of the late Hanora and Patrick Britt of Lexington. Mr. Britt grew up in Concord and attended Concord Public Schools where he was a passionate member of the Concord High School championship football team. He later attended the University of Alabama with a football scholarship. In 1948, he enlisted in the National Guard based out of Concord. From 1949 to 1953, he served honorably in the U.S. Air Force, and was stationed in Libya, Germany, and the United States. Following his military service, he graduated from Babson College in 1958 and attended Suffolk Law School in 1960. A longtime Maynard resident, Mr. Britt was formerly employed for Electrolux and owned and operated several businesses in town including Maynard Bug Rental. A successful Real Estate manager and investor, he held several properties in Maynard, North Falmouth, and Bartlett-Glen, NH. He happily spent every summer at Megansett Beach in North Falmouth where he could be found boating, fishing, digging for quahogs, and attending numerous social events at the Megansett Yacht Club. An aviation enthusiast, he obtained his private pilot's license and enjoyed recreational flying. He was an active communicant at St. Bridget Parish in Maynard, and a member of the Megansett Yacht Club, the Concord Independent Battery, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW). Above all, he loved life and was a devoted husband, a dedicated father, and a proud grandfather. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and cheering them on at their athletic endeavors. In addition to his wife, Betty, survivors include his children, Michael Britt and Peter Britt, both of North Falmouth, Jessica Beer and her husband Peter of Westford, and Sarah Britt of Duxbury, his grandchildren, Max and Bretta Beer of Westford and Hadley, Cameron, and Violet DaSuta of Duxbury, his brother Edward Britt and his wife Nan of Medfield, and several nieces and nephews.
