Obituary

Jacqueline M. Buckley, 93, longtime Concord resident, passed away on April 24, 2025, surrounded by her loving children. Jacqueline was the devoted wife of Leonard Buckley, who died in November 2003.

Jacqueline was born in Cambridge, Mass., on August 18, 1931, the daughter of the late Edward N. and Mary A. Boudrot and sister of the late Mary, Jean, Edward, Richard, and Stephen Boudrot. She is survived by her loving sister and best friend Annette Carroll of Winchester. Jacqueline leaves her beloved children, Jacqueline (Matthew) Fearer of Boxborough; Janet (Jeffrey) Bernard of Chatham; David (Lisa) Buckley of Nashua; and Richard (Amy) Buckley of Bethesda, Md. Their baby son Kenneth died of heart complications in 1954. Jacqueline absolutely adored her grandchildren, Charlotte Fletcher; Andrew Bernard; Abigail, Kara, and James Buckley; and Thomas, Matthew, and Mark Buckley, as well as her great grandchildren Brody and Madison Tarbox, and Edward Fletcher.

President and Valedictorian of her class at Saint Mary's High School in Cambridge, Jacqueline's life was forever changed when she met Len Buckley at a Saint Patrick's Day dance, after which he walked her safely home, permanently securing her heart. Len joined the United States Marine Corps in 1948 and served in China, Korea, Okinawa, and Vietnam, retiring as a Captain in 1969. Throughout, Jacqueline was a dedicated military wife, raising their family in Quantico, Va; Guam, Mariana Islands; upstate New York, Newport, R.I.; and Camp Lejeune, N.C. Always a news aficionado, Jacqueline wrote and published a newsletter while living in Guam, building community for other military families so far from home. Later, she was active in the Camp Lejeune Officers' Wives Club, volunteering in numerous charitable endeavors.

In 1968, the Buckley family moved to Concord, Mass., where they lived happily for 55 years. After Len's death, Jacqueline moved to daughter Janet Bernard's circa 1890 Hubbard Street property, where she lived for 20 years in a former barn that was beautifully restored by "This Old House," whose producers named it "The Concord Cottage." It sat alongside a century-old canopy of grapevines. For the last three years, Jacqueline lived with Janet's family in Chatham on Cape Cod. With its charming downtown, Jacqueline affectionately referred to Chatham as "Concord by the Sea."

Shortly after his Aunt Jacqueline passed away, her beloved nephew Edward Boudrot of Magnolia, was inspired to write:

"Today, the rain falls like the sky remembering her — tough as iron, kind as the first light of morning. The steady heart of a family woven from strength and faith, carried the prayers of generations on her shoulders.  She loved like a warrior and watched over us like a saint. Through brothers and sisters, through storms and stillness, her presence was the thread that stitched us together.  Even now, as the world weeps its quiet sorrow, she stands — unseen but felt — a matriarch in the marrow of who we are. Her spirit, vast and fierce, will never be undone."

Private burial arrangements in St. Bernard's Cemetery were entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.

If you wish to make a donation in honor of her and her late husband's lifelong commitment to service, the family suggests memorial contributions to Veterans Legal Services .
