Jacqueline Quinzio Amirhor, a longtime resident of Acton, Massachusetts, died on March 5, 2018 at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence in Wayland surrounded by her loving family. Jackie, as she was known by all, is survived by her husband of 48 years, Dr. Parviz Amirhor, her son Nicholas Quinzio Amirhor of Concord, her sister Jeanne and husband James Hupprich of Martha's Vineyard, her sister Jeri Quinzio of Cambridge, and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Jackie grew up in Arlington and Melrose, graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and received a master's degree in teaching English as a Second Language from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She loved teaching and travel and was able to combine both when she lived and taught in areas as far-flung as California, Illinois, and Iran as well as the greater Boston area. Shortly after graduating from college, she lived in Paris and studied at the Sorbonne. She made and maintained close friendships everywhere.
A dedicated teacher, she taught elementary school in Roxbury when she returned from Paris. After their marriage, Jackie and Parviz lived in Illinois where her husband received his PhD and Jackie taught at the University. In 1974, they moved with their young son to Iran, where they lived for five years. Jackie taught English for Technical Faculties at Teheran University and also edited textbooks. After the Iranian revolution precipitated their return to the states, they settled in Acton, and Jackie began teaching English as a Second Language to students in the Lawrence Public School system. She was a friend to colleagues and mentor to her many students, following their progress long after their school years.
A loving wife and mother, she adored her family and always put it ahead of her professional career. After she retired, she joined the Acton Garden Club and was elected a board member. She was co-chair of the Environmental and Conservation Committee and the Program Committee and served on the Garden Therapy Committee at Emerson Hospital. She took particular pleasure in creating flower arrangements and taking flowers to patients.
