Ida Mae Scarlett departed to be with her Lord on March 29, 2022.
Born in Clarendon, Jamaica on March 17, 1925, Ida was determined to lead a life of service to others. A lifelong member of The Salvation Army, Ida worked for years with children at a school for the blind in Jamaica, then emigrated to the United States at the age of 40. She soon found her way to the Perkins School for the Blind in Watertown, Massachusetts and spent the rest of her career working in various capacities there. She found great joy in her work, especially as switchboard operator. Ida was uplifted through her faith, music, and the musical instruments she liked to play such as her harmonica and tambourine. She shared all that she had with those in need.
Ida is survived by a brother, her sister Mrs. Iris McLarty, nieces and nephews across the United States, Jamaica, and England, as well as her family of cherished friends who thank the staff at Newbury Court, Rivercrest Wellness Community, and Care Dimensions for their years of care and friendship. Special thanks to Nicole and Denise.
Relatives and friends will gather for Ida's funeral service on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 2:00 pm in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Burial will follow at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Salvation Army in Jamaica or Perkins School for the Blind.
Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
