Hikmet N. Emmanuel, M.D., of Concord, died Sunday, September 1, 2013 at St. Patrick's Manor in Framingham. He was the beloved husband of Gail A. (Luther) Emmanuel. Born in Baghdad, Iraq on April 17, 1926 he was the son of the late Nematella and Mary (Loqa) Emmanuel. He attended schools in Baghdad, graduated from the University of Baghdad and the Royal College of Medicine in Baghdad. He received degrees in Philosophy and Theology at Boston College and served his Residency in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School. For many years, Dr. Emmanuel worked in private practice at several hospitals in Massachusetts including Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was a member of the American Psychiatric Society and the American Medical Association. In addition to his wife, Gail, he is survived by his two daughters, Maryanne Giglia and her husband Sal of Bedford and Leila Shansab and her husband Yama of Oakton, VA., his grandsons, Aaron Shansab of Oakton, VA and Jacob Giglia of Bedford. He was also the brother of the late Dr. Mudhaffer Emmanuel of Baghdad.
Cemetery:
Following the funeral Mass, burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
Visitation:
Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday, September 4th from 4 to 7 PM.
Service:
Funeral will be held on Thursday, September 5th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER at 8:45 AM followed by a funeral Mass in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Road, Bedford at 10 AM.
