Herbert J. Jacobs, a resident of Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA, and formerly of Concord, MA, Marblehead, MA, and Philadelphia, PA passed away at home on June 19, 2021. He was 86.
Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 13, 1935, Herb was the son of Julius and Minerva (Kaplan) Jacobs. He is predeceased by his parents, his sister, Judith (Jacobs) Krieger, and his beloved dog and constant companion, Poco.
Herb was a graduate of Overbrook High School and The Philadelphia College of Art, and he had a long and satisfying career in advertising and marketing. He began as a commercial artist, working for companies such as N. W. Ayer in Philadelphia and Culver Advertising in Boston. Later he was a founding partner in Harcomm Associates in Cambridge, MA and founder and president of The Jacobs Creative Group in Concord, MA.
Herb was a devoted volunteer at Open Table, an organization that addresses hunger in the Concord area, for over 20 years. He was also a member of the Nashawtuc Country Club and served as a board member for both organizations.
Herb loved saltwater fishing and was never happier than when he was on a boat with his buddies or his kids, pulling in striped bass, bluefish, or whatever was biting. He also enjoyed golf, antiques, and puttering around in his basement creating the unique works of art that are treasured by his family. But what Herb might be remembered for best is his sense of humor. He was never at a loss for a witty remark and his friends, family, and coworkers can attest to the fact that he was one of the world's greatest tellers of jokes. If Herb was in the room, sooner or later he would have everybody laughing.
Herb leaves behind three children, Steven Jacobs of Reno, NV, Thomas Jacobs and his wife Beth of Marblehead, and Ellen Jacobs of Somerville, as well as seven grandchildren.
Family members will gather for a private burial service at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to
