Herbert T. Ishii, age 96, of Acton, MA, formerly of Edison, NJ and Ewa, HI, died peacefully on January 5, 2022. He was the loving husband for 58 years of Rose (Caro) Ishii. He was born on May 4, 1925 to his late parents, Torajiro and Hana (Kato) Ishii. Born on the island of Oahu, Herbert played a variety of sports, was captain of his high school's basketball team and enjoyed spending time outdoors. In a twist of fate, he was camping with friends on the beach the day Pearl Harbor was attacked. What he witnessed that day made indelible memories. Within a few years, he was proudly serving his country in the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War as a Radio Operator. After leaving the army, Mr. Ishii spent his entire career working for Western Union as an Electronics Technician. He and Rose raised their family in Edison, New Jersey, before relocating to Massachusetts in 2009 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He maintained his lifelong love of sports and especially enjoyed following baseball as a proud Yankees fan. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind a daughter, Frances Ishii of Acton, a son, Kenneth Ishii and his wife Sheryl of Concord, two grandchildren, Ellie and Aidan Ishii, one sister, Leatrice, and many nieces and nephews. Several brothers and sisters predeceased him. In accordance with his wishes, a private burial service with military honors will be held at a later date in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific. In recognition of the importance of the Tenney Recreation Center, his "second home" growing up, donations in his memory may be made to the Boys & Girls Club of Hawaii (designated for the Hale Pono Ewa Beach Clubhouse).
