IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helene "Vicki"
Silver
February 15, 1930 – March 7, 2023
Helene V. "Vicki" Silver, 93, of Concord, MA, formerly of Washington, CT, died after a short illness at Rivercrest in Concord on March 7, 2023.
Vicki was born in Brooklyn, NY, on February 15, 1930, to the late Edward and Ida Feuerstein. She thrived in high school at Oakwood Friends School, where she took the name Vicki from a part in a play she was in. While at Hunter College, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa, she met Ronald Silver, to whom she was happily married for 47 years until his passing in 1998.
Although they lived in Manhattan during the weekdays for Ron's business and their children's schooling, starting in 1964 they spent every weekend, summer and vacation at their beloved 1780 colonial home in Washington, CT, where they moved permanently after Ron retired. While in Manhattan, Vicki, in addition to raising three children, worked at the Isabel O'Neil art school and studio, eventually taking several classes herself and producing beautiful trompe l'oeil finishes on lamps, mirrors and boxes. For the last seven years of her life, Vicki happily lived at Newbury Court and then Rivercrest in Concord, MA.
Vicki's true passion was raising and providing a loving and happy home for numerous dogs, usually more than one at a time and most of them adopted from rescues. She and Ron loved skiing and took their children and grandchildren on ski adventures both in the US and abroad, including regular trips to Stowe, Vermont, where the family spent many wonderful vacations.
In her leisure time, Vicki was a voracious reader, a lover of a wide range of music, and an accomplished bridge player. She also enjoyed skiing, hiking and tennis.
The greatest joy Vicki had was spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Joanne (Charles Stein), Wendy (Robert Charles), and Marc (partner Jill Appel); her grandchildren, David Stein (Kate), Alison Silver (fiancé Darren Gwin), Jeremy Silver, and Lisa Charles; and her great-granddaughter Nell Stein.
Services will be private.
If you would like to make a contribution in her memory, it may be made to the Animal Welfare Society , 8 Dodd Road, New Milford, CT 06776.
Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
