Obituary

Helen M. (Mackay) Sablone, 87, of Concord, died Thursday, December 16, 2010. She was the beloved wife of Terzo George Sablone. They were married in 1963 in Canada. Born in Aberdeen, Scotland, on December 20, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Lamb Mackay and Jane (Cumming) Mackay and attended private schools in Scotland. During World War II, she served as a Lance Corporal in the Royal Air Force, stationed in Scotland and England. In 1945, following her military service she married Gordon Matthews, who died in 1960.She was a resident of Canada from 1945 to 1963 before moving to the United States. A Concord resident since 1965, she enjoyed walking her dog, dancing, and reading. She was a longtime member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her family and volunteering at her church. In addition to her husband, George, she is survived by one son, Gary Matthews and his wife Marjorie of Nashua, NH; two daughters, Patricia Kolarik and her husband Francis of Shirley and Heather Murray and her husband Dudley of Hyde Park, NY; one daughter-in-law, Myrna Matthews of Ontario, Canada; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She was also the mother of the late G. Douglas Matthews who died in 2009. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Buddy Dog Humane Society, 151 Boston Post Road, Sudbury, MA 01776-3173. Cemetery: Private interment St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord. Service: Memorial service Tuesday, December 28th at 2 PM in Trinitarian Congregational Church, 54 Walden Street, Concord.
