Obituary

Helen E. "Lil" (Jacobs) Olsen, 86, of Concord died Thursday, April 12, 2018. She was the beloved wife of 49 years of the late Bernard R. Olsen who died in 2000. Born in Waltham on January 29, 1932 she was the daughter of the late Carl W. and Helen E. (Anderson) Jacobs. She attended Waltham schools and was a 1949 graduate of Waltham High School, where she received the Top Female Athlete Award. She was employed for a time at Wal-Lex Bowling Lanes in the early 1950's where she met her future husband Bernard. The couple were married in 1952. A Concord resident since 1962, she was active in her children and later her grandchildren's activities. She enjoyed camping, genealogy, vacationing in Martha's Vineyard, was an avid Boston Bruins fan, and was known as her family's poet. Mrs. Olsen was a lifelong active member of the Waltham Covenant Congregational Church and more recently the Trinity Covenant Church in Lexington. She was the historian for the Anderson family whose members enjoy their reunion each June, and also hosted the Olsen family Christmas Eve celebration every year. She was the mother of Richard of Dudley, MA, Cheryl Conlan and her husband Don of Norwood, Laurel Wenson and her husband Bob of Nazareth, PA, and Peter and his wife April of Bedford Hills, NY, grandmother of Shauna and Andrew Campbell, Elizabeth and Rebecca Wenson, and Alex, Joshua, and Thomas Olsen, and sister of Nancy Maillet and Susan Ciampi of Hudson and Warren Jacobs of Waltham. She was predeceased by siblings Doris Verhille, Carl Jacobs Jr, Eleanor Jacobs, and Norma Mace and is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her best friend Beverly. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, April 16th from 4 to 8 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Her funeral service will be on Tuesday, April 17th at 10 am at the Trinity Covenant Church, 7 Clematis Road, Lexington followed by interment at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord.
