Obituary

Helen Ruth (Carlson) Deas, 75, of Concord died Monday July 11, 2011 in Concord. She was the beloved wife of 50 years of James M. Deas. Born in Chicago, Illinois on July 17, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Hilmer and Regina (Kubon) Carlson. She attended Northwestern University Business School in Chicago. Mrs. Deas was employed as an executive secretary for the former Trans World Airlines in Chicago for five years. Following her marriage in 1960, she became a resident of Concord where she raised her family. In Concord, she was a former chairman and nine year member of the Public Ceremonies and Celebrations Committee. She also served on the Town's 350th birthday committee in 1985 and was a former Concord Girl Scout leader. From 1987 until her retirement in 2007, she was employed as an executive secretary at Harvard University in Cambridge. Helen was also an accomplished artist in oils and ink, and a classical pianist. However, her great joy was always family, for which she worked tirelessly In addition to her husband Jim, survivors include her daughter Constance Deas of Boston, her son James Deas II and his wife Jacqueline of Framingham, her grandson Joshua Deas of Framingham and several cousins. Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center will be held on Friday July 15th from 7 to 9 pm and also on Saturday July 16th from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A graveside service will be held on Monday July 18th at 11 am at the family burial plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Bedford Street, (Rte. 62) Concord Center. Officiating will be Rev. Joel Guillemette, Senior Pastor of the Sudbury United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to The Concord Scout House, 74 Walden Street, P. O. Box 73, Concord, MA 01742. Arrangements are under the care of Charles W. Dee and Susan M. Dee, Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
