Harold S. Shriber, 91, of Acton, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, following a long illness. He was the husband of Janice (Kellert) Shriber.
Born in Boston on December 17, 1925, he was the son of the late Maurice and Betty Shriber.
From 1944 until 1946, Mr. Shriber honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a Marksman and Medical Technician. By the time of his discharge as a Corporal, he was decorated with the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Bronze Battle Star, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, and a Good Conduct Medal.
He spent the majority of his career as a Mechanical Technician between MIT and Sperry Rand, where he was responsible to conduct various experiments to advance technology. He was well versed in dozens of different languages, and enjoyed metalworking, coin collecting and being an active member in the local VFW.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Ellen Joy-Shriber Bluth and her husband Michael of Acton, his grandsons, Benjamin & Alex Bluth, his sister, Charlotte Gettes of Baltimore, MD, and his brother, Leon Shriber of Greenwich, CT. His brother Sherman Shriber has predeceased him.
Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service on Monday, April 24th at 1 pm in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Acton, where Officers of the U.S. Army will render military honors. Shiva will be observed at the home of Michael and Ellen Bluth, immediately following the cemetery services.
