H. Malcolm Ticknor, 85, a retired architect and resident of Concord, MA, died peacefully on ‎December 26, 2021. He was the husband for 32 years of Susan G. Ticknor. ‎ Malcolm was born in New York City on March 1, 1936, to his late parents, Benjamin and Barbara ‎‎(Farmer) Ticknor. He was a member of Milton Academy's class of 1953. He ‎continued his studies at Harvard College, class of 1957, and Harvard University's School of Design, class of 1959, where he received a master's degree in architecture. While a student at Harvard College, he was active with the Glee ‎Club and The Harvard Krokodiloes, the university's oldest a cappella group. ‎ For many years, Malcolm was an employee and subsequently a principal of The Architects' ‎Collaborative, founded by the renowned architect Walter Gropius. Malcolm's visions and designs led to numerous projects directed by him, including Davis Elkins College Library in West Virginia; Rhodes College in ‎Memphis; Huntington Gallery in West Virginia; Institute of Public Administration in Riyadh, ‎Saudi Arabia; Westin Hotel in Boston's Copley Place; and City Place in West Palm Beach, as well as ‎the Hyatt and Amathus, two five-star hotels in Cyprus. He was also proud to design ‎his longtime family home on Annursnac Hill Road in Concord. ‎ An avid fly fisherman, he frequently visited fishing hot spots in Northern New England and the Rocky Mountains. He was a masterful caster and fly tier and was a member and former president of the Boston Fly Casters, a dinner club for fly fishermen. Sports of all kinds were appreciated by Malcom, whether playing as a schoolboy, watching one of his children's amateur events, or passionately rooting for the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics. Malcolm was an opera and musical theater ‎enthusiast, and over the years he participated in The Concord Players, The Concord Chorus, and the voice studio of Bob Gartside. During his long battle with Parkinson's disease, Malcolm never wavered in his courage, optimism and cheerfulness. As his body failed him, he remained grateful for simple pleasures and for all the ones he loved. In addition to his devoted wife, he will be forever missed by three children, Malcolm F. Ticknor ‎of Groton, MA, Estey Ticknor and wife, Tara Lagu, of Chicago, IL, and Perdy Mullins and ‎husband, Rick, of Cape Elizabeth, ME; his grandchildren, Mack, Cameron, Tim, Persis, Calvin, ‎Freddie, Max, and Ivy; his stepson, Alex Getsinger, and wife, Kim, of Naples, FL, and their children, Gus and Zach; two brothers, ‎Mike Ticknor of Eugene, OR, and George Ticknor and wife, Kathy, of Chestnut Hill, MA; and ‎many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind the mother of his children, Mitty Ticknor of ‎Gorham, ME. Two brothers, Tom and Ben Ticknor, predeceased him. Relatives and friends are invited to a celebration of Malcolm's life at The Umbrella Arts Center, 40 Stow Street, Concord, MA on Saturday, July 30th from 2 to 4 pm. We encourage all to join us in celebrating Malcolm's lifelong love of joyous color and bow ties by wearing festive attire at the Celebration of his Life. He will be laid to rest during a private burial at Forest Hills Cemetery in Boston. In lieu of flowers, contributions to honor his memory may be made to Yellowstone Forever .
