Grace Noel (Kennedy) Smethurst, 73, of Acton, formerly of Concord, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 22, 2011 surrounded by her loving family at her Acton home. Born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 24, 1938 she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Mata May (Russell) Kennedy. She attended schools in Mart, Texas and Worcester, Massachusetts. She graduated from Worcester High School in 1956 and Massachusetts General Hospital School of Nursing in 1960. From 1960, until her retirement, Mrs. Smethurst worked as a registered nurse at various local hospitals including Emerson Hospital in Concord and Lahey Clinic in Burlington. A longtime Concord resident and most recently of Acton, she taught English as a Second Language as a volunteer for the town of Acton. She enjoyed needlepoint, was an avid reader and was especially devoted to her grandchildren. Survivors include, her former husband, William H. Smethurst Sr., her son, William Smethurst, Jr. of Fitchburg, her daughters, Thenderia Smethurst of Maynard and Darah Langa and her husband Mauricio of Franklin and her grandchildren, Justin, Courtney, Danielle and Grace.
