On August 5th, 2020, surrounded by her parents, sister, and partner, Gina Rong passed away after a long and brave battle against leukemia at the age of 29. Gina spent most of her childhood growing up in Massachusetts. She attended Acton-Boxborough Regional High School, where she developed a lifelong passion for science and medicine, and where she met her partner. She went on to Northeastern University, where she earned her Bachelor's of Science in Health Science before pursuing a medical degree at Stony Brook University in New York. Her curiosity, compassion and love for other people motivated her to pursue a career in medicine. Unfortunately, leukemia caused her to take a detour from medical school. When she was in remission, she dedicated herself to improving treatments for other cancer patients, working as a clinical research coordinator at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. To all of us, Gina was a dear friend, partner, sister, and daughter. Throughout her life, Gina led with compassion, a positive attitude, and easygoing sense of humor. Gina quickly made friends wherever she went, and we can all share an experience where she brought together disparate groups of people who had nothing in common except admiration and love for Gina. We mourn the loss of an inspiring young woman who was on her way to making a large impact on the world, unfortunately cut short by the tragedy of cancer. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gina's memory can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute to further cancer research. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the memorial service will be invitation-only, but will be live-streamed to the public. A link will be provided here prior to Friday. Gina will be laid to rest during a private burial service at Woodlawn Cemetery in Acton. Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord, MA.
