Obituary

Gilbert K. "Gil" Gailius, 85, of Sanibel Island, FL, formerly of Concord, MA, South Boston and originally from Dorchester, died peacefully of complications from Parkinson's Disease on May 30, 2017. He was the loving husband of Lillian (Romanskis) Gailius and beloved father of Gregory and his wife Loretta of Newton, Laura August and her husband Gary of Carlsbad, CA, Louise Duys and her husband Tobias of Derry, NH, Gilbert and his late wife Sheila of Milton, Linda Adams and her husband Robert of Falmouth, ME and Gary and his wife Tatiana of Glendale, AZ, loving Grandpa to 17 grandchildren and uncle to countless nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Joseph B. and Mary K. Gailius and was predeceased by his brother Edmund, his sister Vivian Plevock, and his brother Arthur. Gil was born in 1931 and raised in Dorchester. He met the love of his life, Lil, in 1939 when they danced together with the South Boston Lithuanian Dance Group at The World's Fair in New York City in 1939. They married in 1954 shortly after he served in the US Army Finance Corps in San Francisco during the Korean War. Family meant everything to Gil. He was a devoted husband to Lil and devoted father to his 6 children. Gil was a proud graduate of Bentley School of Accounting, Suffolk University and Boston College, MBA '62. During his professional career, he served as Chief Financial Officer for Foster Grant, Midland Glass and American Biltrite. His work ethic was second to none, a trusted confidant to the executives with whom he served and the corporate boards he represented. He developed wonderful relationships with his many friends as a long time member of both Nashawtuc Country Club in Concord and The Dunes in Sanibel, FL. Gil was an accomplished accordionist who performed at Jordan Hall in Boston as a teenager. He loved all varieties of music but especially polkas. Gil was an avid golfer and a diehard Red Sox fan. He looked forward to watching every Red Sox game up until the moment of his passing. The entire Gailius family expresses its sincere gratitude to all of his caregivers for the past 3+ years, namely Theresa, Althea and Victor, who cared deeply for Gil on the final stages of his journey. Gil's Catholic faith was extremely important to him as a long time parishioner at Holy Family Parish in Concord and Saint Isabel Catholic Church in Sanibel, FL. He was also a life long member of the St. Peter's Lithuanian Parish in South Boston and was an active member of the South Boston Lithuanian Citizen's Club.
