Gertrude F. "Sis" McKenna, 86, of Stow, formerly of Concord died Friday May 20, 2016 in Acton. She was the long time loving companion of the late Roger H. Derby.
Born in Concord on November 1, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Joseph H. and Gertrude F. (Mara) McKenna. She attended Concord Public Schools and was a 1947 graduate of Concord High School.
Miss McKenna retired as an administrative assistant with New England Telephone & Telegraph Co. in 1987 after over forty years of employment. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.
She resided in Concord until 2003 when she became a resident of Stow.
A former communicant of St. Bernard's Church in Concord, she more recently was a communicant of St. Bridget's Church in Maynard.
She was active with the Stow Council on Aging, enjoying many of their group trips.
A long time fan and follower of Boston sports, for many years she was a season ticket holder of the Boston Bruins.
"Sis" was a loving sister, sister-in-law and loving aunt to many.
She was the sister of Joseph H. McKenna Jr. and his wife Dorothy of Florissant, MO, James R. McKenna and his wife Martha of Rye, NH, Leo C. McKenna and his wife Christine of Hanover, NH, Margaret Ann Hawksworth of Newport, VT and the late Maureen McKenna Forrester, sister-in-law of the late Phyllis McKenna and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be held Wednesday May 25th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER at 8:45 am followed by a funeral Mass in St. Bridget's Church, One Percival St. Maynard at 10 am.
Interment will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord.
Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be on Tuesday May 24th from 3 to 8 pm.
