Gerard J. "Gerry" Callanan, 90, of Concord, died Sunday, June 26, 2011 at his Concord home. He was the beloved husband of the late C. Elizabeth (Forsyth) Callanan. Born in Boston on June 22, 1921 he was the son of the late J. Edward and Mary (Quinn) Callanan. He attended Newton public schools and graduated from Newton High School in 1939. He received his AB degree from Harvard College in 1943 where he was a catcher on the baseball league and served as class agent. During World II he served in the U S Navy as a gunnery officer aboard a destroyer. His ship participated in several major campaigns of World War II including the invasions of Normandy, Southern France and Okinawa. In 1946,Mr.Callanan joined Westinghouse's Elevator Division in Boston as a sales engineer. In 1955 he became the regional sales manager in New York City and in 1961, he became the New York district sales manager for service and modernization. He worked in Boston as a regional manager from 1970 until his retirement in 1986. A Concord resident since 1970, he previously lived in Stamford, Connecticut. He was a member of the Harvard Varsity Club, Harvard Engineering Society, Real Estate Board of New York and Boston, Building owners and Managers Association of Greater New York and the Friends of Harvard Baseball. Survivors include his daughter, Beth C. Rockett of Concord, 3 grandchildren, Erin Bingman and her husband James of Methuen, Daniel Rockett of Methuen, Megan Place and her husband Douglas Jr. of Manchester, NH, 2 great grandchildren, Jamie and Shannon Bingham of Methuen, 1 brother, Robert Callanan of West Newton, 1 sister-in-law, Mabel Callanan of Auburndale and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late J. Edward Callanan. Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Wednesday, June 29th from 9:30 to 11 AM followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center at 11 AM. Burial will be in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord. Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Wednesday in recognition of Mr . Callanan's service in the U. S. Navy during WWII.
