Obituary

George Philip Wolf, Jr., age 79, of Maynard, MA passed away on October 10, 2024 at CareOne in Concord, MA after a battle with cancer.

George was born in Baltimore, Maryland on June 9, 1945. The son of George P. Wolf, Sr. and Doris Jeanne Saunders, George moved with his family to Miami, FL in 1960.  It was there that he attended high school and later met the love of his life, Lois M. Rovell-Rixx, whom he married in 1968.

From 1968 to 1971, George served in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. After his Army service concluded, George earned his BA in Business from Florida Southern College. He worked in the home construction business with his father for a number of years before starting his own home building business in Okeechobee, FL in 1979. In 1983, he relocated to Columbia, SC, where he continued as a custom home designer and builder for many years.

George was an accomplished violinist, having discovered a passion for the instrument while in high school. He was active musically in numerous orchestras and church communities over the years, forming many lifelong friendships along the way.

George and Lois spent 56 devoted years together, and raised two sons. During his later years, he enthusiastically took up tree farming and gardening, spending many happy hours operating heavy machinery on his land. George and his wife recently moved to Maynard, MA to spend their retirement years close to their two sons and families.

George was a beloved husband, a devoted father, and loving grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, his eldest son, Eric (Lauren) and granddaughter Willoughby, and his youngest son Brian (Joi) and grandchildren Adeline and Austin.  George was predeceased by his three siblings, David, Julia, and Joseph.

The family expresses their gratitude to Holly and the devoted staff of Ascend Hospice, and to Jane and the staff of CareOne at Concord who worked to bring George comfort and dignity during a challenging time.
