Obituary

George A. Hodges, Jr., 75, formerly of Manchester and Reading. Devoted and beloved husband of Noime Hodges of Manila. Loving father of Laura Hodges Taylor (and her husband Scott Taylor) of Weston and George A. Hodges, III (and his wife Melanie Hodges) of Manila, step-father of Mark Ficken (and his wife Erika) of Winthrop and Justin Ficken of Chatham, and grandfather of Zachary Taylor, Nicholas Taylor, Katya Hodges, Hawkins Hodges and Will Ficken. Also survived by his sister Molly Hodges Henshaw and brothers Christopher Ciullo, Jeffrey Ciullo and Jonathan Hodges, and the children and grandchildren of his wife Noime: Oliver (and Marites) Valeza, Ferdinand (and Ronia) Pensotes, Norman (and Lhing) Pensotes, and Renie Pensotes; and Angelo Valeza, Krystal Mae Pensotes, John Fernando Pensotes, Michaela Kate Pensotes, Matthew Benedict Valeza, Nathaniel Valeza and Akisha Pensotes.\r\n After growing up in Boston, Marblehead and Beverly Farms, George served in the US Army and Foreign Service in Germany, Greece and Brazil, and was a teacher and coach at Buckingham Browne & Nichols School in Cambridge and a research specialist before retiring to the Philippines in 2000. He was a fierce patriot, a passionate fan of the Red Sox, and a scholar of Soviet-American relations, US politics and history. \r\n Interment will be private. Visiting hours 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday July 20 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law in Weston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the MGH Cancer Center Leukemia Treatment Fund, 165 Cambridge Street, Suite 600, Boston, MA 02114, Attn: Kelly MacLean Clark.
