George D. Gower, Jr., 79, of Leominster, formerly of Concord, died peacefully on Thursday, December 31, 2020 at Sterling Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. For 53 years, he was the devoted husband to Lee (Mara) Gower.
George was born in Lowell on January 15, 1941 the son of the late George Gower Sr. and Lena (Tousignant) Gower. Raised in Westford, he was a graduate of Westford Academy, where he excelled in baseball and basketball.
For over 35 years, George was a familiar, friendly face at Concord-Carlisle Regional High School as the Facilities Supervisor. He embodied a hard work ethic throughout his life, and cherished the dear friendships he made along the way. He was also a former member of the Concord Rod and Gun Club and enjoyed coaching his son in youth ice hockey and little league programs. An avid fisherman, George treasured the many fishing trips to upstate New York with friends. Later in his life, he and his wife enjoyed traveling to Ireland and Florida, camping in Alton Bay, N.H., and spending time with their grandchildren.
In addition to his wife Lee, George leaves behind his son, Leo Gower and his wife Kimberly of Leominster, a son-in-law, Michael LaMountain of Sterling, three grandchildren, Lilly LaMountain, Adelyn Gower, and Caden Gower, and three siblings, William Gower and his wife Irene, Francis Gower and his wife Nancy, and his sister Nancy Loiselle and her husband Ronald. George has been reunited in heaven with his daughter, Sarah (Gower) LaMountain, who passed away on April 6, 2020.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Friday, January 8th from 10 to 11:30 am in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Due to COVID restrictions, a private funeral service for family will be held in the funeral home. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Concord. For those who wish to attend George's funeral remotely on Friday at 12 pm, a live stream link will be posted here prior to the service.
