George William Blanchard Jr., 78, of Concord, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, at his Concord home. He was the beloved husband of 57 years of Wanda Jean (Larison) Blanchard. Born in Watertown on Jan. 14, 1930, he was the son of the late George W. Blanchard Sr. and Pauline Louise (Fairbanks) Blanchard. He attended Watertown schools and was a 1946 graduate of Watertown High School. A Concord resident since 1954, for many years he was self-employed carpenter known for his motto, 'Let George do it.' He retired in 1990. During his career he worked on the construction of the Tobin Memorial Bridge over the Mystic River in 1948. He also worked for several prominent Boston families. He enjoyed boating, playing guitar and New England nautical history. He also did extensive research on his family genealogy, tracing his roots to the first Blanchards who arrived in America in the 1640s. In addition to his wife Wanda Jean, survivors include five children, George W. Blanchard III and Shirley Ann Blanchard, both of Concord, Wayne Philip Blanchard of Maine, Lynn Marie Friend and her husband Gene, of Marlborough, and Denise Fairbanks Simpson and her husband, David, of Fellsmere, FL; three grandchildren, Wayne Philip Blanchard Jr. of Maine, Courtney Shirley Blanchard of Napa, CA, and Parker George Blanchard of Maine; two sisters, Shirley Stevens of Meredith, NH, Adrianne Downey of Watertown, and two brothers, Paul Blanchard of Marlborough and Ronald Blanchard of Natick.
