Obituary

George Arthur Affannato died peacefully at his Concord home on Sunday evening, May 7, 2023, following a courageous six-month battle with cancer. He was 66.

Born in Cambridge on October 11, 1956, he was the son of the late Arthur and Constance (King) Affannato. George attended Cambridge schools, before graduating high school in Acton. A lifelong sports lover, he enjoyed playing street hockey with neighborhood friends, baseball and ice hockey. He cherished childhood memories of enjoying Red Sox games at Fenway Park with his father, who was born and raised in Somerville.

George will be remembered for his steadfast work ethic. He exhibited meticulous care and pride in his grounds keeping role at Brae Burn Country Club in Newton and Oakley Country Club in Watertown. He was devoted and loyal managing the grounds and property for the Rosse family of Concord for 33 years.

He inherited his father's talent for music and entertaining as a gifted guitarist and songwriter. He performed at area venues as a solo act, and at times was accompanied by friend and music partner, Ted. George met his best friend Billy Shaughnessy while working at the former Howard Johnson's in Concord. The two became as close as brothers, and regularly worked together on DJing local events. His interest in ham radio began as a child, and continued as a hobby in his adult life. No one can replicate his delicious homemade meatballs. He enjoyed playing backgammon, and was a nature and animal enthusiast.

George leaves behind his dedicated wife and soul mate, Jennifer (Ferguson) Affannato, along with his beloved daughter, Emily, both of Concord. He is also survived by two nieces, Dawn Dixon and Elizabeth Markowitz, numerous extended family members, work colleagues and friends. He was predeceased by his dogs, Artie and Angel, who he treasured.

No formal services are planned, in accordance with George's wishes.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be to American Cancer Society .

Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
